In many industries and applications, combustible gases, vapours, mist or dusts may occur during manufacturing and processing, transport and storage. When these combine with the oxygen in the air, potentially explosive mixtures may form. Should these ignite, explosions will occur, which may result in serious injuries and damage to property. Technical measures can be taken to prevent or at least reduce the risk of an explosion. One element of this primary explosion protection is technical ventilation of the potentially explosive atmospheres. This reduces the concentration of the hazardous substance in the mixture and thereby lowers it to a safe level.
Explosion protection firstly requires a ventilation system to transport the combustible mixtures in the explosive atmosphere out of the room. Typical applications for ventilation systems in potentially explosive atmospheres are:
MAICO supplies the following fans in various nominal sizes and performance classes for potentially explosive atmospheres containing gas and dust. They are designed for use in zones 1 and 2 as well as 21 and 22 (hazardous areas):
An introduction into and the principles of explosion protection can be found in our guide. This guide contains technical principles and legal bases, provides application examples of ventilation solutions, selection help and product overviews. It therefore assists planners, fitters and operators of systems on matters relating to explosion protection.
